6 Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments to Brighten Your Smile

Posted on: June 20, 2018

Cosmetic DentistryThanks to cosmetic dentistry, you now have many options when you want to improve your smile. A person’s teeth are one of the first things people notice during social interactions. An unsightly-looking smile often makes people appear older and unattractive, while a vibrant smile is attractive and youthful.

It is no surprise people with badly-stained or discolored teeth have a tendency to feel self-conscious when interacting with others. Fortunately, you no longer have to settle with a smile that is not up to par. Cosmetic dentistry now gives you many different ways to improve your smile. Here is a look at some dental treatments that often address issues that can ruin your smile.

1. Dental bonding

A dental bond is a composite that changes the appearance of discolored or cracked teeth. It is a relatively straightforward procedure that does not require any surgery. During this treatment, dentists apply a composite to the patient’s tooth and mold it into the desired shape. They then harden the composite using an ultraviolet light. Dental bonding is one of the cheaper cosmetic dentistry treatments.

2. Lumineers

Lumineers are similar to dental veneers. Each lumineer is a thin shell that acts as a protective cover for the front of a patient’s tooth; hiding any flaws in it. Unlike veneers, there is no need to remove tooth enamel to make room for Lumineers. That means patients deal with less sensitive issues when they choose Lumineers over veneers.

3. Veneers

Veneers also serve as masks for your teeth, hiding any imperfections. Before installing veneers, dentists remove a small portion of their patient’s enamel to make room for the veneers. By doing so, this will prevent the patient’s teeth from appearing bulky after installation.

4. Teeth whitening

If you dislike the color of your teeth, a teeth whitening session might be all you need to improve your smile. While you can purchase teeth whitening products at your local supermarket, they are not anywhere close to the level of products that dentists can use. Expect to see immediate results when you choose a professional at-home whitening session from your dentist.

5. Dental crowns

Crowns are covers that protect a tooth. Also known as caps, these devices protect a tooth that sustains bad damage from tooth decay or trauma. Crowns often consist of porcelain or ceramics that look and function just like your regular teeth.

6. Dental implants

Implants are the most effective way to replace a missing tooth. These devices often consist of two parts. A screw – that’s typically made of titanium – that is surgically inserted into a patient’s jawbone, and a crown that is placed on the external-facing end of the implant.

Implants mimic the behavior of your natural teeth and roots, so it promotes healthy jawbone tissue. Other prosthetics that address missing teeth do not address the bone loss that is associated with missing a tooth.
