- Start with a good fit. If you want your dentures to stay in place, you need to make sure that they are a good fit to start with. We will take an impression of your mouth before creating a set in the lab. This way they will fit snuggly around your gums, and the chance of them falling out is greatly reduced. If you have a current set that continues slipping, schedule a consultation to see if the fit needs to be improved.
- Apply a cream adhesive. You can help them to stay in place by using a cream adhesive that is applied to both your top and bottom dentures. Use three or four drops on your upper and lower ones. Each drop should be around the size of a pencil eraser. If you use more, it could ooze out into your mouth so be careful not to overdo it.
- Use a powder. A powder adhesive can be used in the place of cream and will accomplish similar results. You shake the powder onto the center of your dentures than lightly shake them so that the powder is distributed evenly, and any extra falls off. You can then put your dentures securely into place.
- Clean them. In order to keep your dentures in good shape, you should take them out and brush them with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste. This will remove any food particles or residue from your dentures and keep them looking clean and beautiful.
- Soak them. Every night your dentures should be soaked. Simply take them out before bed and soak them throughout the night. This won’t interfere with your ability to eat or speak since you will be sleeping, but will make sure that they stay in good condition and feel comfortable during the day. This also gives your gums the break that they need in order to prevent feeling irritated.
